Native New Yorker Rory Gevis has been an artist her whole life. “The light, the architecture, the shapes. Everything inspires me,” she says, “I can’t imagine a day going by, even if I’m not in the studio, and not doing something artistically.”

That includes her daily makeup ritual. “Using Thru Line is just another form of what I would normally do in my art… I create lines that become stories… and it’s never perfect—there’s always that mistake that makes it more special.” In life, as in art, Rory believes there are no rules. “Beauty changes,” she says, “It’s the mood, it’s a story that you’re telling yourself every day.”

Art is tactile for musician Kelsey Lu. “I’m definitely more hands on. That’s why I love the studio so much,” she says. “It’s the same when applying makeup by hand—I like to feel it. I know a lot of people use brushes, but I love using my fingers.”

Whether through style or makeup or music, it’s all connected. “There’s a thru line for me in the shade Portrait,” says Lu, “I have a new song called ‘Portrait of a Lady on Fire’ and I really love this antique gold color. It’s so beautiful and it looks really great on my skin tone.”

It’s not so much about ‘oh, she’s wearing a liner,’ it’s more about ‘oh, I really like how her eyes look,’ or they want to stare into my eyes.”
